Twitter is a service that people can use to communicate with friends, family… anyone. People write short updates (Tweets) of 140 characters or less. These messages post immediately and can be seen by anyone “following” you.

You need an internet connection to use Twitter. You can do this from your computer or mobile phone or devise.

How to get started on Twitter:
1. Go to: Twitter to set up an account. You will need an e-mail address.
2. Create a user name and password.
3. You can upload a photo that will be seen by others. This is not mandatory, but much more fun.
4. To see what everyone else is saying, you must “follow” people.
a. If you already have friends on Twitter, you can search for them and begin “following” them.
b. You can follow people and companies.
c. You can follow newspapers and Police and Fire Departments
d. You can follow schools and groups
5. To follow someone, just do a “search” in the search box for who you want to follow, and click “follow”. It’s that simple! Now you will see any “Tweets” from them.
6. If you want people to follow you, you should let people know you are on Twitter and you will begin to get Followers.
a. Sometimes people will follow you even without being asked. If someone is following you that you don’t want to follow you, you can block them.
7. You can send direct messages to another Twitter member. These messages will not be seen by your followers (only seen by the person you send the message directly to).
8. You can post pictures on Twitter.
